Fees

All fees are payable in advance: applications will not be processed unless fees have been paid in full. All fees are reviewed annually.

Initial application for registration to NRPST

The annual new application fee (for one language direction) to become a Registrant on the National Register of Public Service Translators (NRPST) is £252.00. This application fee includes the first year's registration fee if successful.

Fee for application for registration to NRPST and NRPSI

Fees for applications to become a Registrant on both the National Register of Public Service Translators (NRPST) as well as the National Register of Public Service Interpreters (NRPSI) for one language/language direction are £378.00; £252.00 for NRPSI registration and £126.00 for NRPST registration.

Annual renewal

Registrations must be renewed annually and the current annual registration fee is £252.00 (including VAT) for NRPST.

If your application for renewal is unsuccessful you will receive a refund of £115.00 and NRPST will keep the balance as the administration fee for reviewing the renewal application.

Additional languages (directions)

Translators applying to add a new language direction to their record will need to pay a one-off additional language fee of £81.00 including VAT for each additional language direction. Note that the annual renewal fee (see above) is the same, regardless of the number of languages (directions) registered.

If your application for an additional language direction is rejected, you will receive a refund of £20.00 and NRPST will keep the balance as the administration fee for reviewing the additional language application.

Lapsed registrations and refunds

If after your first year on the Register you have been off the Register for more than 3 months then you can apply for reinstatement. A reinstatement fee of £79.00 including VAT will be required in addition to the annual renewal fee.

If you decide to leave the Register once you have been accepted then fees are non-refundable. Partial refunds can only be made, on request, to the estate of deceased Registrants and to Registrants who become pregnant during the registration year and wish to cease practising. Please contact admin@nrpst.org.uk for the evidence we will require.

Student Fees

Students who qualify will become Student Registrants on NRPST free of charge for the first year, and will then renew paying the current fee.

Claiming tax relief

NRPSI Ltd, owner and operator of the National Registers, NRPST and NRPSI, is on the HMRC list of approved bodies (HMRC reference T1644/26/2018), which means that the annual NRPST and /or NRPSI registration fee can be claimed as a deductible expense for tax purposes.
